Connecting cultural partners
Díptic is an independent bureau for cultural projects.
We develop projects and organise partnerships.
We specialise in exhibitions and publications related to language, writing and art.
Díptic gives national and international cultural projects local relevance.
Díptic's face
Díptic is run by Ferran Bach, who assembles the best team for each project.
Before founding his own bureau for cultural projects, he combined work as a language teacher, a translator and a cultural event manager.
Through these activities he pursued his interest in doing research on language and
in creating cultural events.
As a language teacher he taught Spanish to American college students in Bloomington (IN), business English to unemployed people in the greater Barcelona area, Catalan to British university language students in Sheffield and business Spanish to Dutch pupils at the Arnhem business school.
He experienced the fascinating hardships of teaching students with very different backgrounds and was confronted with how to bridge the gap between cultures.
As a translator, he has translated fictional books, poetry and also technical texts
from English and Dutch into Catalan and Spanish.
The challenge of translating is how to negotiate meaning from one language into the other and how to make a culture bound text understandable for a new reader.
As an event manager, he worked for a literary foundation in Barcelona and was involved in the organisation of exhibitions.
Creating cultural events has taught him how easily the process of developing and realising an idea is taken for granted.
After all these years, surviving several private and professional culture shocks has turned him into a long life learner. Now he feels even more fascinated by creating cultural projects in a multicultural and multilingual environment and by involving local communities.
